Maria said, “It is a huge privilege to have been re-elected by local residents to represent Basingstoke in Parliament. The campaign I fought was 100% positive throughout - that is what brought people together; a shared vision for helping make Basingstoke and Britain an even better place to live and work. Under the Leadership of David Cameron the Conservatives have secured support to form a majority Government which means we can tackle the issues I know are uppermost in the minds of Basingstoke residents. Because we have a growing economy we can secure the future of our NHS, we will renegotiate our membership of the EU and tackle immigration. In Basingstoke people understood that this was the most important General Election for a generation. We saw record numbers of people using their vote and I am humbled by this result. I would like to thank everyone for their good wishes and I am grateful that you have supported my re-election.I will continue to work for all the constituency, no matter who you voted for and to do so to the best of my ability.”
