Basingstoke MP Maria Miller has welcomed the Government’s recent change to Building Regulations, which means that all new homes now have to be built to include the necessary in-building physical infrastructure to support superfast broadband.
The Government has also been working with BT Openreach and the Home Builders Federation to reach an agreement which aims to deliver superfast broadband connectivity to all new build properties in the UK.
Maria said: “Fast internet connections are increasingly seen as an essential utility, like electricity and water, and becoming a necessity, for home working, studying and staying connected.”
“Following this welcome change to Building Regulations, developers are now under an obligation to make sure that all new homes are equipped to receive superfast broadband. They have also signed up to a commitment to work with BT Openreach for the connectivity to be available. Anyone buying a new home should expect this connection to superfast broadband and should be demanding that this is written into their contract.”
