The Alzheimer’s Society teamed up with Basingstoke MP Maria Miller for a ground breaking roundtable event about dementia. The event brought together a range of health care professionals.
After introductions from Hope Virgo, Alzheimer’s Society Stakeholder Relations Officer for the South East, and Maria Miller MP, the two-hour event featured talks from Kelly Inwood, the charity’s Services Manager for North Hampshire, Steve Manley from Healthwatch Hampshire and Pupil, Amber Wallace from Fort Hill Community School. The discussion covered a wide range of issues such as the signposting of local services, and post diagnosis support.
Maria Miller Commented;
“The roundtable discussion was incredibly valuable. Dementia is one of the biggest health and care challenges that our country faces .It was very heartening to learn about the wide range of support that can be accessed for Dementia sufferers and their carers and look at ways of improving signposting to services. We are fortunate to have good local services but there is always room for improvement. It was encouraging to hear about “iSPACE” which is a project focussing on Dementia Friendly GP surgeries. I would encourage more surgeries in Basingstoke to implement iSPACE which has huge benefits for patients and carers and also improves diagnosis rates.”
