Local MP Maria Miller welcomes the work of the Arts Council in providing support for arts and culture in Basingstoke.
£752,883 was invested in the Arts between 2012 and 2015 in Basingstoke, with £425,934 of this going toward the Anvil as a National Portfolio Organisation. Last year nearly 10,000 workshop places brought wider musical horizons and enhanced life skills all over the borough and county; more than 3,000 children from the area performed on the stages. The grants from the Arts programme have also been invested in organisations and events including Music Beyond Mainstream, Proteus Theatre Company and Basingstoke Festival.
Maria said: “The arts play a pivotal role in Basingstoke life. Public funding of the Anvil, Basingstoke Festival, Proteus and other organisations through the Arts Council is important support.”
Between 2015 and 2016 over £75 million will be invested into a network of 123 Music education hubs across England on behalf of the Department for Education. The Arts Council aims to continue to work alongside its partners to support a healthy and vibrant cultural sector both in the constituency and across all parts of the country.
