Basingstoke MP, Maria Miller, is encouraging everyone to have their say in the ongoing public consultation for Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s 2022/23 budget.
Maria said: “It is so important that everyone take part in the current consultation, which is a fundamental aspect of our democratic process. The Borough Council do a fantastic job providing front line services to the people of Basingstoke. But it is also vital that residents feedback their priorities to ensure that this high standard is maintained and the future direction of the town in shaped in a way that best reflects people’s needs.
Positive proposals include the hiring of 29 additional staff for services that residents value including increased grass and hedge cutting, improved maintenance of the borough’s green open spaces, additional housing and homelessness support, more help for residents submitting planning applications as well as making it easier to contact the council.
I am also pleased to see a stronger focus on the Council doing its part to help the environment, with the intention of recruiting additional staff for the Natural Environment team to help meet climate change targets.”
Feedback from the consultation, which runs until Sunday 2 January 2022 at www.basingstoke.gov.uk/budget2021, will be considered before final decisions about the budget are taken at a meeting of Council on Thursday 17 February 2022.
