Maria Miller MP for Basingstoke has welcomed the new online campaign “Stamp Out Scams” to keep Royal Mail customers safe from scammers who seek to commit crime using the Royal Mail brand. The “Stamp Out Scams” campaign provides Royal Mail customers valuable information on how to spot scams, as well as tips on how to report them.
Maria said; “Scams are on the rise and it is important that Basingstoke residents stay safe online to avoid being scammed. I welcome Royal Mail’s new campaign “Stamp Out Scams” which gives helpful tips on how to determine if an email, text message or phone call is from Royal Mail, and how to report it if not.
Collaborating with a number of law enforcement agencies last month eight people were arrested under suspicion of carrying out scams targeting Royal Mail customers.
In addition, some 30,000 websites linked with fraudulent activity have been taken down and Royal Mail continues to work closely with law enforcement organisations to provide intelligence and bring an end to these scams.
