Maria Miller Local MP for Basingstoke welcomes the announcement today of new ‘degree apprenticeships’ as part of Apprenticeship Week.
Maria said, “BCOT our local apprenticeship college is already preparing to deliver degree level apprenticeships in Basingstoke.
“Every young person in Basingstoke needs the opportunity to reach their potential and be equipped with the skills they need to get on in life. The apprentices I have met at companies like Midland Group and Thales say that combining real, paid work with high quality training, is helping them get on the career ladder.
“There have been more than 3000 new apprenticeships started in Basingstoke since 2010, and I want to see even more in the next five years. We are now going further with new degree apprenticeships. Designed by businesses, universities and colleges these combine the academic study of a degree with practical experience of high-skilled jobs. Apprentices will be able to earn bachelor’s or even master’s degrees as part of the apprenticeships.
Equipping people with the skills they need to get on in life and backing businesses to create new jobs”
