A new children’s play area, wild zone and BMX pump track are nearing completion at Beggarwood Park, as part of a £258,000 improvement scheme for the community.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council have also installed new benches, bins, and improved footpaths and landscaping at the park and Local Nature Reserve.

The new play facility develops on the previous one, having been extended and updated with 30 new fun facilities. A new eco-friendly wild zone also replaces the old timber maze and will encourage children to explore the natural world. Both new developments are expected to open in November.

BMX fans will also be able to advance their bike skills on the new pump track circuit of rollers, berms and jumps when it opens later in the autumn. The facility can also be used for skateboards, rollerblades, scooters and mountain bikes.
The updates to Beggarwood Park were implemented following a public consultation held last year, where local residents were asked for their views on what recreational and landscaping facilities they would like to see at the park.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough council’s improvements to the park were made possible thanks to £258,000 of funding from developers’ contributions. Following delays due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the work is now in the final stages of completion.

MP Maria Miller said, ‘My thanks go to the local residents who took part in the consultation, and to the borough council for making these excellent improvements to the park a reality and enhancing this much loved green space in Basingstoke.’
