Maria Miller MP is joining with Basingstoke charities and voluntary groups to celebrate local volunteers as part of Volunteers’ Week 2018.
Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1 to 7 June, is coordinated by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO). This year, it is championing ‘volunteering for all’, highlighting that many organisations offer flexible, short-term and even remote volunteering opportunities, so there is a volunteering opportunity right for everyone, no matter how much time they have available to volunteer.
Maria said: “Volunteers’ Week is a great opportunity for us to recognise and applaud the wonderful contribution that volunteers make to our community. We are so lucky in Basingstoke in having so many fantastic volunteers who give their time and energy in many different ways. They are the lifeblood of a wide range of organisations in the town and, without them, many of the services that we take for granted would just not exist.”
“The great thing is that, alongside the invaluable contribution they make for others, volunteers also say they get a huge benefit from the experience, by learning new skills, meeting new people, enjoying the feeling of giving something back to their community – and having fun.”
There are more than 350 voluntary and community organisations in Basingstoke and Deane, relying on the dedication, energy and commitment of their volunteers in order to carry out their work.
