Local MP Maria Miller recently attended Basingstoke Citizens Advice’s Annual General Meeting.
The AGM heard from the Chair of the Trustees David Rees, and the Chief Excutive Graham Hatcher about the many achievements of Basingstoke Citizens Advice, as well as the challenges they face. They have helped nearly 12,500 clients in the last year, many of whom sought help on a number of different issues. The Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane as well as local councillors also attended, showing their support for this much valued local charity.
The guest speakers at the AGM were two peer mentors who are involved with an innovative project being run by Basingstoke Citizens Advice to engage young people in improving their financial capability.
Maria said: “Basingstoke Citizens Advice Bureau continues to be a vital and trusted source of advice and information for local residents, and I know from many consituents how much they do to help local residents with a huge range of problems. They also do important preventative work, including financial capability training so that people learn to manage their money more effectively and so avoid getting into debt.”
“I would like to pay tribute to the fantastic team of volunteers and staff who provide this amazing advice service. They are part of the backbone of our community, and their dedication and expertise in helping some of the most vulnerable people in Basingstoke with the problems they face is very clear to see.”
