Following a high level of support from constituents in Basingstoke, Maria Miller took part in a debate concerning Tax Returns for small businesses and the self-employed.
Basingstoke was among the most active constituencies supporting the petition. The petition concerned the reforms announced by the Government aimed at modernising and simplifying the tax system and helping small businesses and the self-employed keep track of their tax bills throughout the year. Small businesses have expressed concerns that it will add to red tape and administrative costs.
Maria commented: “Whilst I welcome modernisation of the tax system, I am concerned that any changes must help small businesses and not add to red tape and administration costs. Small Businesses are the life blood of the economy both nationally and locally in Basingstoke
