Maria Miller MP has welcomed new figures showing since 2010 the number of people in Basingstoke claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance has fallen by 125 – a 65% per cent drop. This means more people in work, with the security of a good job and a regular pay packet so they can provide for themselves and their families.
The total number of Jobseeker's Allowance claimants in Basingstoke constituency in June 2015 was 671. This represents a rate of 1.1% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64. This is the lowest number of claimants for 16 months in Basingstoke, putting the area at 531st of the 650 UK constituencies when it comes to Jobseeker’s Allowance Claimants (with 1st being the highest number of claimants and 650th being the lowest).
The figures also showed that wages are rising at the fastest rate in real terms since 2007 – rising for the eighth month in a row. This means more financial security for hardworking families in Basingstoke.

‘This is great news for people who want to work hard and get on in Basingstoke – with wages rising at the fastest pace since 2007, and 1,251 fewer people relying on Jobseeker’s Allowance.
‘That means more financial security for people in work, and more families with the security and stability of a regular pay packet - with good jobs being created by Basingstoke businesses.’
