Local MP for Basingstoke, Maria Miller is delighted that two of the borough’s parks have retained their position among the very best green spaces in the UK.
Eastrop Park has been awarded Green Flag status for the 20th year running by the scheme while War Memorial Park has received the award for the 12th year in a row.
The award, which is nationally recognised as a sign of a well-managed, clean and safe park, was given to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
Eastrop Park has everything from a wildlife area to a children’s paddling pool, boating lake, play areas, trim trail and tree trail.
The War Memorial Park hosts Basingstoke Live music festival every year and offers visitors a play area and attractive historic parkland, a skate park, sports pitches and all weather tennis courts. It also boasts a woodland walk and an aviary.
Maria said, “Congratulations go to Borough Council team that work hard to keep our parks across Basingstoke an oasis of green. Green space in and around our town is an important part of what makes Basingstoke a great place to live and this is a fantastic achievement.”
