Maria Miller attended an unusual morning assembly at South View Junior School this morning, when Parent Zone and Google held “Be Internet Legends” held a livestream assembly designed to help children to learn about online safety.
Aimed at Key Stage 2 children “Be Internet Legends” consists of a free PSHE Association accredited curriculum pack, a new teaching module on Digital Wellbeing, nationwide teacher training workshops, local professional roundtables, engaging family activities specifically aimed at parents and a fun interactive assembly for primary schools.
The feedback from schools and pupils has been encouraging - 83% of primary school children said they would behave differently online as a result of Be Internet Legends, with over 60% of schools engaging with the programme since March 2018.
Maria said, “I was delighted to join South View juniors for their “Be Internet Legends” livestream assembly. The internet is a great place for education, entertainment and communication, but it is really important that children learn the skills to stay safe in the digital world especially as so many children are currently home learning.

Developed in close collaboration with experts, children and schools, Be Internet Legends focuses on five internet safety pillars:
- Being S harp about what they share
- Being A lert to scams and phishing attacks
- Being S ecure by creating strong passwords and looking after their personal information
- Being K ind to others online
- Being B rave by talking to trusted adults when they come across something they’re not
Parent Zone and Google are now be delivering livestream and pre-recorded assemblies for pupils learning both at school and at home, livestream parent sessions, virtual roundtables with professionals working with vulnerable communities and virtual teacher training workshops with teachers from all across the UK.
