Maria Miller, MP for Basingstoke, has lodged her very strong objection to the planning application from Centrica to build a gas fired power plant at Spindlewood in Chineham Business Park.
Maria said: “My key concern is the site which Centrica has chosen for this new power plant, which is totally inappropriate. It is next to the busy railway line, a stone’s throw from a children’s nursery and a fitness centre, and immediately opposite the residential area along Hanmore Lane. The impact on people living here and using these facilities has simply not been taken into account.”
Maria added: “The proposal includes building five 25 metre chimneys, which would have an enormous impact on Chineham residents, and particularly those living close by. While Centrica says that the emissions from these chimneys would meet current standards, I am very concerned about any emissions of this nature so close to homes and facilities for very young children.”
“I have written to the Borough Council to set out my very considerable concerns about this proposal, and hope that others will do likewise.”
Maria’s full response to the consultation is attached.
Consultation closes on 13 May. Full details are on the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council website.
