Local MP Maria Miller was pleased to meet up with the recently appointed Chief Crown Prosecutor for the Wessex region, Joanne Jakymec, for an update on the work of the Crown Prosecution Service in Basingstoke and the region more generally. The Wessex region for the CPS covers Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset.
Maria was briefed on the growth in online crime, and the challenges the digital age poses for investigators and prosecutors. Maria and Jo also discussed hate crime, domestic violence and modern slavery.
Maria said: “It was great to meet up with Jo and discuss a range of current issues relating to criminal activity and investigations. I was interested to hear about CPS Wessex’s commitment to ensuring public confidence in the prosecution service, and their scrutiny panels on Hate Crime and Violence against Women and Girls, where members of the public participate in reviewing finalised cases to help identify how to further improve the service.”
