Maria Miller MP has welcomed the new unemployment figures for Basingstoke from November 2015. The figures state that 566 people in Basingstoke claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance in November 2015. These figures demonstrate a fall of 101 claimants since October 2015, with 125 less people claiming since November last year.
Nationally, new employment figures show a record low rate of unemployment and wages continuing to grow. Unemployment is at its lowest since 2008, and youth unemployment is at its lowest for ten years.
Maria said: “Here in Basingstoke we have one of the lowest levels of unemployment in the country, which is brilliant for people who want to work hard and get on. I am pleased that each month more and more people in the local area have the security of employment and a regular pay packet.
It is great news that there are now more women in work than ever before. There are 975,000 more women in work since 2010, and the number of unemployed women has fallen by 91,000 over this year.
It is clear from these figures that excellent progress is being made, and it is essential that we to continue to help the hardest to reach into work as we move closer to our goal of full employment.”
