Local MP Maria Miller has welcomed Basingstoke’s Hampshire Hospitals’ commitment to a dedicated Cancer Centre as part of plans for a new Hospital for the people of north and mid Hampshire. The commitment follows recommendations made more than 8 years ago to build a new Clinical Treatment Hospital, in order to service the increasing demand for patient care for Basingstoke’s growing population.

Maria Miller also recently attended meetings with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to discuss plans for a new Hants hospital and the progress being made.

Maria said, “The need for improved cancer facilities was one of the reasons the Ark Cancer Centre Charity was set up in 2012 and why it has successfully raised £2million towards establishing a new Cancer Centre. Now we have the opportunity to turn those plans into reality with Basingstoke being identified by Government as one of 40 new Hospitals it wants to build across the UK.”

Basingstoke residents can say whether they agree with the Government that Basingstoke needs a new Hospital and Cancer Centre to serve Basingstoke’s community by registering to attend Hampshire Together’s public engagement session. Residents can register for Hampshire Together’s online public engagement session here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/hampshire-together-cancer-services-online-engagement-session-tickets-109854030362.  This event will be held between 11am and midday on Saturday July 18th.
