Basingstoke’s MP Maria Miller has been re-adopted by local Conservative members to be the candidate at the next General Election.
Speaking after the meeting Maria said, "Representing the people of Basingstoke in the House of Commons is a huge privilege and I am pleased to have been chosen by local members to be the candidate again.
" At the next General Election there will be significant boundary changes across the country, and I have been selected to stand in the newly formed Basingstoke constituency.
Any change is a wrench for the communities involved but new legislation rightly requires an end to the vast differences in constituency sizes across the country. This means important changes in Basingstoke: Basing and the surrounding area will be moving into the North East Hampshire constituency, Rooksdown moves to North West Hampshire and the Basingstoke constituency takes in villages to the west including Oakley, North Waltham, Wootton St Lawrence, and Steventon. Until the next General Election there is no change.
"Our community, the most rapidly aging in the County, is a great place to live. I will continue to work hard on behalf of residents to ensure Basingstoke remains vibrant, with our changing demographic reflected in the important public services provided."
