Basingstoke MP Maria Miller was pleased to support the Local Charity Awareness Day on Friday 28 April. A celebration of local charities was organised by Basingstoke Voluntary Action, with many local groups and charities having information stalls in The Malls in Basingstoke. The charities were aiming to explain their work to local residents and also hopefully attract new volunteers.
Maria said: “This was a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contribution that volunteers make to our community. BVA supports more than 1000 people a year to volunteer in the Borough. Local Charity Awareness Day helps to raise the profile of more local charities and to encourage even more people to get involved.”
“We are really lucky in Basingstoke to have so many fantastic volunteers who give their time and dedication in so many ways. It was wonderful to see local residents showing their support for these groups at the Awareness event, and I hope that many of them will have also have been thinking about how they too could give something back to the community by volunteering themselves.”
