Local MP, Maria Miller joined Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire, Tom Floyd, and Mayor of Basingstoke, Paul Miller, to mark Remembrance Sunday at Basingstoke’s war memorial, in War Memorial Park.
Maria said; “It is a privilege, on behalf of the people of Basingstoke, to pay tribute to all who have served to keep our country safe, on this Remembrance Sunday.
“In Basingstoke there are many with direct or indirect links with the armed forces, and it matters a lot that we remember and reflect on the sacrifices of everybody, in both world wars, and in conflicts since, and in particular on this anniversary of the Falklands War.”
“Hundreds of young people in our local cadets, scouts, community groups joined in a moving tribute. It is heartening to see is so many people involved in Remembrance Day services, especially the number of young people, who feel strongly that they want to be a part of this momentous day.”
