Local MP Maria Miller has welcomed much needed additional Government investment to find a solution to the chronic traffic congestion problems at Brighton Hill roundabout.
This new announcement is part of a new £29.9M expansion of the Governments Local Growth Deals and is in addition to the extra £118.1m committed by the Government on 7 July 2014.
Maria said, “Traffic jams at Brighton Hill roundabout remain one of Basingstoke's biggest traffic headaches for residents and businesses.
“It is important that any future house building goes hand in hand with improvements in local roads and services. This new money will help identify a proper solution for Brighton Hill roundabout not just a short term fix.
"We need to find a solution that works for motorists and residents. At the moment there is no plan to solve the problem. This money will go some way to help finding a solution to the chronic congestion identified last year in a major Basingstoke roads review.
"Proposed house building levels would mean gridlock at peak times unless there is major change.
“The new draft local plan is clear, new homes can't be lived in until the necessary infrastructure is in place. Finding and fully funding a solution for Brighton Hill is probably the most important problem that needs to be solved."
