Basingstoke MP Maria Miller has welcomed the announcement this week by SWR of a new compensation package for season ticket holders and other rail users who have been impacted by strike action.
The additional compensation is for up to five days travel and will be offered to season ticket holders and daily ticket holders who travelled frequently during the strike.
Maria said: “I met Mark Hopwood, the interim Managing Director of SWR last week, and also the Transport Minister Chris Heaton-Harris, and stressed to both of them the need to come up with new compensation arrangements for rail users who had been so hard hit by the strikes. The existing Delay Repay arrangements are simply not fit for purpose during the strike action.”
“I am pleased that SWR and the Government have listened to the concerns raised, and have taken action to improve the compensation for rail users whose journeys were disrupted by the strikes.”
