Maria Miller MP for Basingstoke met up with NeighbourCare to catch up with volunteers and trustees on their work and the new intiatives for the charity.
Maria said, “NeighbourCare is part of Basingstoke’s DNA, it’s well known providing transport services to older and disabled residents in our community making sure that they can get out and about, attend medical appointments, and get involved with community activities."
“The charity is going from strength to strength, now offering new services to its users thanks to the talents of their volunteers, including gardening and handyman services. These new schemes help support so many in the local area to live more independently, particularly older or disabled residents who may not have family living nearby.
“The charity also provides a Befriending service, for housebound over the age of 60, via referrals from adult services, GPs, or social prescribers. Face to Face befriending provides practical support for housebound or anxious older residents, who may find themselves isolated in their own homes.
“All these important services are crucial to support our rapidly ageing population in basingstoke, helping build community relationships, which in turn can make a real difference to people’s wellbeing.
“NeighbourCare are looking for more volunteers so they can expand their transport, and gardening services and also broaden their community café offering.”
