Local MP, Maria Miller, met with Cllr Jay Ganesh, the Borough Council’s Executive Member for Planning and Infrastructure, to discuss her ‘Slow It Down’ campaign for local housebuilding.
Maria said: “I am grateful to Jay for his support on this campaign to slow down house building in Basingstoke. We’ve built 150,000 new homes in the past five decades, double the rate of the rest of the country. With the forthcoming Local Plan Update, now is the time to push back on this and ensure Basingstoke builds at a level that reflects our local community’s needs.”
“I know from speaking to so many residents that people in Basingstoke feel we need to press pause on the rapid rate of development. It is important that elected members represent the views of their communities, and so it is great to hear that Cllr Ganesh, and so many on his colleagues, are supportive of this goal.”
