Local MP Maria Miller has thanked volunteers for their work setting up the 10 Community Hubs across Basingstoke town by local community organisations to create a network of support for residents during the Coronavirus emergency.
Maria said; “It is great to see well known and trusted local charities like Inspero and Spotlight, working with churches and community centres to form a virtual network of help and support to help provide reassurance to residents that, if they need it, help is close by. Each hub is offering a range of services, particularly for people who are unable to leave the house and have no help nearby from neighbours, family or friends.”
You can find details of your nearest Hub on the BVA website: https://www.bvaction.org.uk/basingstoke-deane-community-hubs/
“Basingstoke community groups are coming together across the town to support residents like never before. And you can volunteer to play your part by signing up to be a volunteer on the BVA website www.bvaction.org.uk”
Telagu, Hindu Society and Nepalese community, operating out of Carnival Hall, are providing the Hub for the centre of town, and have also decided to work with local restaurants in Basingstoke to provide hot meals for emergency service workers three times a week.
The Coronavirus Hampshire Helpline run by Hampshire County Council is also now up and running for frail or vulnerable residents who do not have support from families, friends or their local community, and who need urgent assistance with essential food or household supplies, collection of medication, or who are at risk of loneliness.
The Coronavirus Hampshire Helpline – Hantshelp4vulnerable - can be contacted on 0333 370 4000. The helpline is available seven days a week, from 9am-5pm.
