Local MP Maria Miller has welcomed the announcement by Housing Minister Brandon Lewis that a new development of 122 homes at Park Prewett in Rooksdown has been selected as a national pilot for large-scale custom build.
Maria said: "It is great news that the Government has chosen the Park Prewett site to pilot large-scale custom and self-build homes, giving people here in Basingstoke another way to own a home of their own.”
“This model of housebuilding will help to increase the housing supply, give people more choice in new build homes instead of always having to look to the major developers, and will contribute to driving up the quality of new build housing.”
The Park Prewett site was bought by the Homes and Communities Agency last year, in its role as the Government’s land, housing and regeneration agency. With the developer Zero C in place, the team will now be working with the Borough Council to achieve planning permission, and it is hoped that house building will begin in 2016.
