Local Member of Parliament, Maria Miller has called on Basingstoke's youngsters and parents to "Be Internet Legends" and stay safe online this summer.
Be Internet Legends is an interactive educational programme from Google and Parent Zone which helps primary school children across the UK to become safer and more confident explorers of the online world.
Maria said, “Pretty much all children go online today to socialise, have fun to watch their favourite YouTubers, playing Roblox or Minecraft, or for older children, making TikTok videos or using gaming platforms like Twitch.
We want children to be able to enjoy exploring the online world, while being better protected from harm. I urge all Basingstoke’s youngsters and their parents to to "Be Internet Legends" and stay safe online this summer.”
Developed in close collaboration with experts, children and schools, Be Internet Legends focuses on five internet safety pillars:
- Being Sharp about what they share
- Being Alert to scams and phishing attacks
- Being Secure by creating strong passwords and looking after their personal information
- Being Kind to others online
- Being Brave by talking to trusted adults when they come across something they’re not sure about.
This summer, you can download a brand new Summer Legends Pack, including fun activities for children and their families to do together during their holidays.
