Local MP Maria Miller took part in a debate on the future of the Restoration and Renewal of the Houses of Parliament calling on the Sponsor Body coordinating the works to ensure that proper consideration is given to making sure Parliament is a place that is welcoming for everyone.
Maria said, “The Restoration and Renewal of Parliament needs to protect our history but also tell the untold stories of our Parliamentary democracy too. Women now make up 1 in 3 elected members and that important change needs to be reflected in the fabric of this historic building. We need to see sympathetic changes to be made to ensure our Parliament is welcoming to everyone, disabled and non disabled people alike whether they are staff, visitors or elected members. We need the Parliamentary Restoration and Renewal Programme to give us a House of Parliament that can be home to a modern democracy, including the technology now essential for members to be effective in their work.”
