Local MP Maria Miller met with Dave Curry, Chief Officer of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, to discuss the future of the service in Basingstoke and across the county.
Following a comprehensive review of the Fire and Rescue Service, proposals have been drawn up aiming to deliver a service fit for the demands of the future. Hampshire residents have been invited to have their say in shaping the future of the fire service in a public consultation of these proposals which began on 14 September 2015.
Chief Officer Dave Curry said: “We want to provide a smarter, more relevant and more efficient service to the residents of Hampshire whilst addressing financial challenges.
Our ambition continues to be the best fire and rescue service in the country and to make life safer for everyone in Hampshire.”
Maria said: “The plans propose a number of new and innovative ideas which have the potential to develop the future of the Fire and Rescue service in a really positive way.
It is important that Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service adapts effectively for the needs of the future, for the safety of all of us and our families. I encourage Basingstoke residents to get involved with this public consultation.”
Members of the public are able to share their thoughts and opinions via an online questionnaire or by attending a public meeting.
A public meeting will take place in Basingstoke on Monday 19 October, from 6.30pm – 9pm, at Carnival Hall, Council Road. The consultation closes on 4 December 2015. For more details on how to take part, visit www.hantsfire.gov.uk/a-safer-hampshire.
