Basingstoke’s MP, Maria Miller, joined local church leaders, charities and representatives from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Basingstoke Police and Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust, for a civic prayer breakfast recently.
The event was hosted by Basingstoke’s Salvation Army and organised by One Church Basingstoke, who seek to bring Basingstoke churches together and support local churches through a number of key missions, such as community cohesion.
Maria said “Local churches and other religious groups play a huge part in our community life and I was pleased to be invited to join One Church Basingstoke and the Bishop of Basingstoke for their first civic prayer breakfast. The event was a great reminder of the importance of togetherness and the positives of volunteering, things that Basingstoke is well known for. Basingstoke is a fantastic place to live and work, due in large part to the commitment and enthusiasm of local community organisations such as One Church Basingstoke. We all have a role to play in ensuring Basingstoke remains a strong community and a great place to live”.
