‘’I was pleased to read that Hampshire’s Highway team has given their assurances that they are fully prepared for the cold weather ahead.
Councillor Nick Adams-King, Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Highways Operations, has said that our salt barns are stocked with 20,000 tonnes of salt and our specialist HGV gritter fleet is ready to go.
Despite this, I urge all residents to take extra care whilst driving in these wintery conditions. Even roads that have been gritted can be slippery and pose significant hazards.
I also encourage residents to use the salt bins that the Council has provided to help reduce the risk by thawing local roads and pavements.’’
Most communities now have local ‘grit boxes’. If yours needs to be refilled, please do not hesitate to report it on the County Council’s website: https://www.hants.gov.uk/transport/roadmaintenance/roadproblems/saltbinrefill
