Local MP welcomes Cold Weather Payments
As freezing temperatures hit Britain, Cold Weather Payments have been triggered in Basingstoke for postcodes RG21, RG22, RG23, RG24, RG25, RG27.
Payments of £25 will be paid out in the next few days, providing vital reassurance to the most vulnerable households that they can afford to turn up the heating this winter.
Maria said, “I welcome announcement that cold weather payments have been triggered to provide real help to the most vulnerable people in Basingstoke, meaning that people do not need to worry about turning up their heating when temperatures plummet.”
Residents in receipt of certain benefits are eligible for Cold Weather Payments, there is no need to claim Cold Weather Payments as they are paid automatically. After each period of very cold weather, you should get a payment within 14 working days. It’s paid into the same bank or building society account as your benefit payments.
Cold Weather Payments are made for each 7 day period of very cold weather - if average temperatures are recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees centigrade or below over 7 consecutive days.
