Local MP, Maria Miller, joined the Mayor of Basingstoke to take part in The Queen’s Green Canopy programme, by planting a tree in War Memorial Park.
Maria said: “I am delighted to be here to take up the Queen’s call to “plant a tree for the Jubilee.” No doubt there will be many celebrations over the coming months to mark the Queen’s 70 years of incredible service to our country. And what better way to participate than by taking part in this fantastic nationwide programme to leave a green legacy, celebrating the Queen’s service by enhancing our natural environment in the service of future generations.”
As well as inviting the planting of new trees, The Queen’s Green Canopy will dedicate a network of 70 Ancient Woodlands across the United Kingdom and identify 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.
