Basingstoke MP, Maria Miller, visited the newly opened Health Hub, situated in Festival Place, along with Cllrs Arun Mummalaneni and Samir Kotecha.
Maria commented: “I’m delighted to visit this fantastic new Health Hub. It’s being run by the same team who have done such incredible work rolling out Covid-19 vaccinations to the residents of Basingstoke, first at the Hampshire Court Hotel and more recently at Jameson House. With over 350,000 jabs delivered so far, the team is now preparing for a booster jab drive in the Autumn.
This location is very convenient for residents, and also helps to target an area of the town with a proportionally lower uptake rate of Covid vaccinations. I was pleased to speak with Operations Lead, Liz Mayon-White, about how this move is paying off and reaching those communities where historically uptake has been low.”
The Health Hub, which opened in June, is located in Festival place and open 7 days a week, 11am-5pm.
Going forward, the Health Hub will offer more than just vaccinations, developing into a Health Centre focussing on prevention care. The aim is to not only to assist GPs in clearing backlogs of health checks, but also to relieve the pressure on general practice as a whole. The Health Hub has worked with North Hampshire PCNs for the past 18 months to establish which areas they can focus on, which will initially include:
- Health Checks (including BMI, BP, Diabetes, Cholesterol, and lifestyle checks);
- Signposting to NHS services including; health & wellbeing, infant feeding, mental health, smoking cessation, and hopefully many more.
