Local MP, Maria Miller, met with Network Rail and South Western Railway (SWR) at Basingstoke Station, in order to discuss rail improvement plans.
“I was pleased to meet with Network Rail and SWR in order to discuss their ongoing strategic work to improve the rail infrastructure that serves Basingstoke.
Given Basingstoke’s incredibly high rates of development and population growth over recent decades, it is vital that transport operators like SWR and Network Rail are continually looking to review the level of services required, and plan for the long-term. Particularly after the pandemic, which has had lasting effects on the frequency and timing of people’s travel, it is right that providers re-assess ways they can best meet demand going forward.
“With the forthcoming Local Plan Update, and the redevelopment of Basingstoke’s Town Centre, now is the ideal time for rail operators to work collaboratively with Local Authorities on boosting transport connectively and upgrading Basingstoke Station. I will be scrutinising closely the work of Network Rail, to ensure Basingstoke’s rail infrastructure needs are met for the long-term future.”
