Local MP Maria Miller was pleased to attend the opening of the UK’s first custom home “gallery” in Rooksdown recently. She was welcomed by Kim Slowe, CEO of Design Your Home.
Design your Home, part of housing company Places for People, is working in partnership with Homes England, to deliver the country’s first large-scale development of 122 custom and self-build homes, at Squirrel Wood in Rooksdown.
The “gallery”, situated in a showhome on the development, allows buyers to browse designs and options for their home, including layouts and internal choices on kitchens, bathrooms, doors, electrical fittings, and sustainability features. The “gallery” was opened by the Mayor of Basingstoke, Cllr Sean Keating.
Maria said: " I was really interested to visit Squirrel Wood and see how this new custom build development is operating. From talking to some of the first buyers at the development, it is clear that they welcome having an entirely new way to buy a new home, and create a “bespoke” home at no additional cost.”
“The custom-build model of housebuilding will help to increase the housing supply, give people more choice in new build homes instead of always having to look to the major developers, and will contribute to driving up the quality of new build housing.”
