Local MP Maria Miller visited St Michael’s Hospice recently and had meeting with the new Chief Executive Iain Cameron. Maria caught up with recent developments and heard about the success of the Hospice at Home Programme and the domiciliary care business.
During a tour of the Hospice’s facilities, Maria also met Julie Spreadbury, Director of Patient Services, as well as members of staff and volunteers.
Maria said: “St Michael’s Hospice is part of the fabric of Basingstoke and we are so fortunate to have a hospice here offering a high quality of care for patients and their families. I am really pleased to hear how, increasingly, this care is being delivered not just in the in-patient setting but all across the catchment area, through the Hospice at Home programme. “
“I was also interested to hear about the continuing success of the Six Steps Programme, which supports local care homes in providing high quality end of life care. This is a really valuable programme, helping more elderly care home residents who are approaching the end of life to be able to spend their last days peacefully in their home, rather than being inappropriately admitted to hospital.”
