Basingstoke MP, Maria Miller, marked Autism Acceptance Week by signing up for training to become an Autism Ambassador as part of a project run by local charities and Councils.
Maria said: “It is estimated that currently around 700,000 people have a diagnosis of autism in the UK, but many more could be undiagnosed. A diverse society brings many benefits, and it is important that we do all we can to give those with autism a greater voice.
“This fantastic scheme, which is run by a partnership of charities and local authorities, including Hampshire County Council, is proving highly successful in raising awareness of the many different types of autism and how to ensure people receive the support and understanding required to help them thrive.
“I am pleased to take part in this excellent scheme and help promote it in Basingstoke as part of Autism Acceptance Week, with the aim of continuing to see it grow into the future.”
