Basingstoke MP, Maria Miller, visited Fairfields Primary School, who had signed up to take part in UK Parliament Week, which ran from 14-20 November.
Maria said: “I was delighted to visit Fairfields Primary, to meet with Headteacher Kelly Dillon, and talk with students from the School Council about the issues that matter to them locally and nationally. It was also an unexpected pleasure to meet with Paul Timms from Hampshire County Council’s ‘Music Service’ and hear how a quarter of students at Fairfields are currently learning a musical instrument.
“I want to ensure that our voters and citizens of the future understand how vital their participation is in our democracy, and its been great to speak to Fairfields students about my work and the role MPs play. UK Parliament Week is an important campaign and resource for schools and other organisations to help promote education about Parliament and our democratic process. I would encourage all Basingstoke schools to sign up next year.”
