Basingstoke’s MP Maria Miller has today welcomed the Conservative Government’s plans to double free childcare for hardworking families – which will benefit up to 90000 parents in the South East.
The offer of 30 hours of free childcare per week during term time – worth around £5,000 a year – means parents will be able to get on while bringing up a family.
All three- and four-year-olds in working families will be eligible for 1,140 hours of free childcare per year – twice the current entitlement.
Maria said; ‘For some families childcare costs mean it can be difficult to work.
I very much welcome this government's understanding of that problem and for making it a priority to cut the cost of childcare for more parents. Doubling free childcare will make a real difference to up to 90000 parents in South East. Parents will be able to return to work and hold on to more of their hard-earned money, while their children benefit from 30 hours of free, flexible childcare.
‘Conservatives are on the side of working people – helping them get on and supporting them at every stage of life.’
