Maria Miller praises The Pink Place and welcomes the expansion of support for cancer sufferers In Basingstoke and the surrounding area. Maria Miller visited the newly expanded and refurbished Pink Place in Wote street and was welcomed by Kathy Williams, fundraising coordinator, volunteers and trustees. The Pink Place opened its doors to the first guests on 2010 offering support for women with cancer in terms of companionship, counselling and therapies. The Wonderful Wigs service was subsequently launched providing high quality wigs and offering free fitting, cutting and styling. The Pink Place offers Monday sessions, and will also be opening on alternate Tuesdays, also in the pipeline are Wednesday drop-in coffee mornings. Other plans include a men's session. Maria said; "The Pink Place offers incredible support to women suffering from cancer. It is an invaluable local service. Not only can a cancer diagnosis be very frightening it can be a very isolating experience. The Pink Place and the team of volunteers make sure that women can share their experiences and be helped by counselling and therapies. It is wonderful to see that many of the volunteers have been helped by The Pink Place themselves and have come back to offer the support that they once had. I would encourage as many people as possible to go their Summer Picnic with live music on the 20 th June -this will be a real opportunity to support the Pink Place and have a lovely day out at the same time."
