Maria Miller MP for Basingstoke said "It is important for Southampton and Portsmouth ports to be prepared in case of a No Deal Brexit but the potential impact underlines the importance of avoiding this situation in the first place. That's why I am fully supporting the Government's negotiated Withdrawal Agreement in the 'Meaningful Vote' next week, which would give us a proper, controlled exit from the EU."
"MPs need to back the Government's deal to avoid real uncertainty as 29 March approaches. Contingency Planning for the Ports in the south of Hampshire demonstrates the potential impact a No Deal Brexit could have on our local community.
Whilst the Police and Local Authorities are working hard to find potential solutions, over 500 lorries a day pass through the port of Portsmouth, so any disruption will clearly have a knock on effect to traffic and road networks".
