Basingstoke MP Maria Miller said, “St Michael’s Hospice provides unique support for patients and their families facing the most difficult times in our community.
“ Like many other Hospices, St Michael’s is funded by generous donations from the community, with just 15% of its costs being centrally funded by the NHS. This allows the organisation to be independent and run its services to reflect the needs in our area.
“Rising operating costs are clearly a challenge, particularly energy costs, which are set to double in October, the hospice is looking to invest in its building infrastructure to reduce energy costs as much as possible. Whilst also planning for the long term future of the hospice by liaising with Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust and looking at all possible options including moving to a new location to position themselves near to the proposed new hospital for Basingstoke”.
St Michael’s Hospice was opened in 1991, cares for over 500 patients a year across North Hampshire who have a life-limiting illness, are facing the end of life or experiencing bereavement.
