Local MP Maria Miller supported the Motor Neurone Disease Association today at their Parliamentary reception in Church House.
Motor Neurone Disease is a fatal, rapidly progressive disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It can leave people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breathe. MND kills around 30% of people within 12 months of diagnosis, and more than 50% within two years. It affects people from all backgrounds and communities, and has no cure.
Maria was delighted to reunite with constituents Simon Aspray, who suffers from Motor Neurone Disease, and his wife. Pauline Owen, chair of MNDA for North Hampshire was also present.
Maria said: “It is important that the needs of people with Motor Neurone Disease are understood by communities and medical professionals. It is essential that individuals diagnosed with MND are given the support they need as it is needed, including mobility, speech and language equipment.
I congratulate the North Hampshire MNDA group for the excellent support they provide to those living with this disease and their families.”
