Basingstoke MP Maria Miller has warmly welcomed the news that two local academies have been successful in their bids for funding from the Government’s Condition Improvement Fund (CIF). Both schools are for children with special educational needs.
Dove House School Academy will receive more than £2 million from the Department for Education, to replace their existing temporary buildings with a new fit for purpose teaching block. This will increase the capacity of teaching spaces at the school, to accommodate an increasing number of pupils.
Coppice Spring Academy on Pack Lane will receive £600,000 for new windows and doors, and heating repairs.
Maria said: “I am delighted that two schools in Basingstoke have benefitted from this year’s CIF funding. It is clear that the bidding process was very competitive, so I am very pleased that Dove House and Coppice Spring were successful”
“It is great news to see even more investment in schools in Basingstoke. This new funding of more than £2.6 million comes on top of the £35 million that Hampshire County Council is investing in expanding Basingstoke primary schools to meet the increasing number of children at primary level. Investment in our schools is key to ensuring that every child can get the best possible education, and is also an important part of the infrastructure needed to support new housing development.”
The core priority of CIF is keeping academy and sixth-form college buildings safe and in good working order. CIF also supports a small proportion of expansion projects for Ofsted-rated good or outstanding academies and sixth-form colleges that need to expand their existing facilities and/or floor space to increase capacity.
