Local MP for Basingstoke, Maria Miller has welcomed the new figures released by Office of National Statistics that show Basingstoke continues to have one of the lowest unemployment figures in the country.
This month's figures show 712 people in Basingstoke claimed Job Seeker’s Allowance in March 2016, which means Basingstoke is one of 120 constituencies with the lowest levels of unemployment in the country.
The number of claimants in Basingstoke represent 1.2% of the economically active population in the area, compared to the national average of 2.5%.
Maria said: “We need to make sure that everyone in Basingstoke who faces unemployment or redundancy gets the expert help they need to get back into work as soon as possible. We have one of the lowest levels of unemployment in the country which means for those who find it less straight forward to get back into employment reskilling and retraining are important options."
