Following the floods of 2014 an innovative engineering solution has been agreed and funded to guard against groundwater creating floods in Buckskin in the future. Local MP Maria Miller has welcomed collaborative working between Government, County and Borough Council to find a solution and protect residents in more than 180 homes in Buckskin.
Maria said, " The floods in Buckskin in 2014 were devastating for local people. The floods in 2014 were some of the worst in the country in terms of property and people. The whole community came together to support those worst effected & I pay tribute to the incredible community effort that has seen things rebuilt and renewed over the past three years.
"Ground water flooding creates some of the most technically difficult challenges for flood defence experts and it has taken time to find a solution that will provide residents with the real peace of mind we need.
"This new flood prevention scheme, with more than £6million being provided by national and local government demonstrates our commitment to making things right for the people of Buckskin. It will give local Buckskin residents new protection against future flooding from rising groundwater which devastated the community three years ago.
"At the time of the floods I asked the Prime Minister's COBRA committee to help the people of Buckskin and the Government gave important financial support to clean up and identify a lasting solution. This scheme will help give residents much needed peace of mind for the future."
