Basingstoke MP, Maria Miller met Marnel Junior School’s Acting Headteacher Mr Tijhs Jordan and, Chair of Governors, Mr Steve Matthews to discuss action being taken by the school following Ofsted’s report rating the school; Inadequate.
Ofsted’s inspection rated the school as inadequate because of issues concerning the curriculum, behaviour, teaching of phonics, the attainment and attendance of SEND pupils.
Maria commented; “The Ofsted report will have been very worrying for parents who will want to know that the school will provide the best education for their children. Every child in Basingstoke should be in a school that provides the best curriculum, best teaching and best leadership to enable each child to realise their full potential. The new leadership team are starting to tackle the serious problems identified by Ofsted and it will be important that as part of their work parents’ confidence is rebuilt in this much loved community school.”
Schools that have been judged inadequate by Ofsted are automatically subject to an Academy Order, requiring them to become sponsored academies.
